Knew something was amiss
when it was more than a slip
in tongue that kept her calls
far away at bay for longer than

a few days. Trips to local florist;
chrysanthemums, daisies and
hydrangeas stemming to my apology,
a truce along with a peace offering

with my offer to once again hold fast
her heart so close once more.
An impatient wait meted with
a want to sedate this worried heart

of mine seemed to be a fleeting wish
dangling off lips from remorsed lovers
or me. And the hours lapsed like years,
wondering if the delivery even reached

her, my regret, the most simplistic,
basic form. Ah! But would a presentation
of such a possibly trite form sway her
beating heart to return, revert back to...

Vibration on phone, text msg to me
from her. Pulse rate intensifying,
frighten to even look, yearning, dying
to know her reply and in this tug

of emotions, I managed to sneak
a peek and a smile sneaked
alongside with my gleaming eyes;
tears were in order, but I held back.
